UWM to host memorial for art professor Berman

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Art Professor Emeritus Fred Berman died on Nov. 6, 2011, at the age of 85. His family and friends are holding a memorial service for him on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2 p.m., in the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd. A reception will follow.

Berman produced primarily paintings but also photographs, collages, and assemblages. His work was exhibited in venues including the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Museum of Art.

He was one of the artists featured in the exhibit “Wisconsin Artists: A Celebration of Jewish Presence” at the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University in 1994.
