Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee this season donated more than 6,000 pounds of produce to local food banks, meal sites, and emergency pantries through its Surplus Garden Harvest project, according to a release from the organization.
Members of the community donated the produce from home gardens, the Jewish Community Garden, Community Supported Agriculture boxes from area farms and Congregation Sinai. Collection points included Congregation Beth Israel and the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. Recipients included the Jewish Community Pantry.
Tikkun Ha-Ir (Repair of the City) seeks “to encourage the Jewish community to build a more just Milwaukee through study, action, and civic engagement,” according to the release. Its executive director is Judy Baruch, and Pam Frydman-Roza is its food justice coordinator.
