What’s nu: Orthodox ping-ponger competes in Milwaukee

The Long Island Herald on July 20 carried an item about how Akiva Ackerman, 12, of West Hempstead, N.Y., competed in the 2011 U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships, held June 30-July 4 at the Frontier Airlines Center in Milwaukee.

Ackerman was one of more than 600 players from 28 countries present, one of 10 Jewish players and the only Orthodox Jew participating. He finished with a match record of 9-3. He was hosted in town by Chabad of Wisconsin.
