Congregation Shir Hadash to honor physician Rosenberg

Congregation Shir Hadash will honor child psychiatrist Lucy Rosenberg, M.D., at its annual “Un-Gala” on Saturday, May 14, 6:30 p.m., at the North Shore Country Club in Mequon.

Rosenberg was born in Fond du Lac, the youngest child of immigrant parents Freda and Peter Barash. She was the only one of their three children born in the United States and the only one born without hearing loss. She entered the University of Wisconsin-Madison at 17, and was accepted to medical school after three years of undergraduate work.

She first specialized in pediatrics, and was also active as a volunteer at, among other places, Milwaukee’s East Side Hebrew School, before she pursued a residency in child psychiatry. She has been active in many community organizations, including Children’s Outing Association, Mental Health America, and the Wisconsin Medical Society. She has been a member of Shir Hadash for many years.

In addition, the band Electri-violet, featuring John Plankenhorn and Carole Ferrara, will perform at the event.
