Three agents of the Mossad, Israel’s intelligence and covert operations agency, captured a German Nazi war criminal in the 1960s. But 35 years later, a different man claims to be this person.
Such is the situation in the Israeli film “The Debt” (“HaHov,” 2007) that will be screened in a free film class on Monday, May 2, 7 p.m.
The Coalition for Jewish Learning, the education program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, will present this class at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd.
Veteran Israeli actress Gila Almagor plays Rachel Brener, one of the ex-Mossad agents who must travel to Europe and deal with secrets buried years before. An American version of this film, starring Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington, will be released in theatres in 2011.
This film class is presented as a tie-in to the Sunday, May 8, Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day) event, which will feature Mossad veteran Mishka Ben David. (See story, page 7.)
