The Community Passover Food Drive (Ma’ot Chitim) for 2011 will begin March 27.
This project combines the efforts of Milwaukee’s Jewish children and several organizations to collect Passover food for those who cannot afford items needed for a traditional seder.
Participating organizations are: Coalition for Jewish Learning and the Jewish Community Relations Council, both of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation; the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center; the Jewish Community Pantry; Jewish Family Services; the Jewish Home and Care Center; the Rabbi Scheinfeld Ma’ot Chitim Fund; Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee; and the Wisconsin Council of Rabbis.
Between March 27 and April 6, Jewish schools throughout Wisconsin will be collecting packaged kosher foods for Passover, including matzot, gefilte fish, grape juice, soup, and matzoh ball mix.
Food donations may be dropped off March 27-April 6 at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., or at area synagogues and Jewish schools.
In lieu of foods, monetary contributions will also be accepted and should be sent to Dorene Paley at the JCC. Checks should be payable to the Jewish Community Pantry with the notation “Children’s Passover Drive.”
Bags of Passover food will be distributed to those in need on Sunday, April 10, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Jewish Home and Care Center, 1414 N. Prospect Ave. Jewish teens will pack and help distribute the food as a service-learning project.
