A daughter, Maya Yarden, was born Dec. 24 to Marisa Deann (Jacobson) Shemi and Michael Shemi of New York City. She is their first child.
The maternal grandparents are Linda R. and Warren L. Jacobson of Glendale. The paternal grandparents are Diane and Amnon Shemi of Petaluma, Calif.
The baby is named in memory of her maternal great-grandfather, Max Smotkin.
