JCPA head will keynote Milwaukee forum on civility

Rabbi Steve Gutow, president and chief executive officer of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, will be the featured speaker at “Civility: A Community Conversation.”

This open to the public community forum is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 17, 7 p.m., at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd.

The JCPA is the national affiliate organization of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, one of the local sponsors of this event.

The impetus for the event, according to JCRC director Elana Kahn-Oren, is to address issues of anger, violence, name-calling, and the breakdown of communication within the Jewish community.

“Our Jewish tradition demands that we seriously and respectfully consider all sides of issues that are controversial and inflame passions,” Kahn-Oren said.

Other co-sponsors are the JCC, the National Council of Jewish Women–Milwaukee Section, and the Women’s Division of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

The event is free of charge. RSVP to 414-390-5781 or email cherylv@milwaukeejewish.org.
