Abraham H. Berkovits of Mequon died Dec. 10 of a ruptured abdominal aorta. He was 90.
He was born and graduated from high school in Niagara Falls, N.Y. A businessman, he was manager of the Three Sisters ladies ready-to-wear stores and was president of the Southgate Merchants Association. He then started his own company, Hangers Unlimited in Milwaukee.
He was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, Congregation Shalom, and Temple Menorah. He also was active in the Jewish National Fund, Jewish War Veterans, and B’nai B’rith.
His first wife, Ilomae Berkovits (nee Kimmel), died in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Enid Bootzin Berkovits; daughters Diane Lynn (nee Berkovits), Amy (Gary Stein) Berkovits-Stein, and Helen Berkovits; sister Edith Abramowitz; and two grandchildren.
Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Rabbis Tamar Crystal and Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on Dec. 12. Burial was in Temple Menorah Ever-Rest Cemetery.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Jewish National Fund, the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale, or the Hunger Task Force.
