More anti-Semitic than anti-Muslim attacks occur

Milwaukee Jewish Community Relations Council leaders Joyce Altman and Elana Kahn-Oren wrote of “a rash of stereotyping, scapegoating, and violence against Muslims for no other reason than their religious identity” in their opinion article in the October Chronicle.

This moved them to initiate, and subsequently receive, an “Interfaith Call for Tolerance, Respect, Civility” from the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, with whom they seemingly engage.

It is of interest to note that, as Commentary magazine reported in its October issue in an article “The Mosque Provocation” by Jonathan S. Tobin, in every year from 2000-2008, the number of (recorded) hate crimes against Jews far outnumbered those against Muslims.

In 2008, 105 attacks were reported as coming from anti-Muslim bias, while 1,013 acts of anti-Jewish crimes were recorded, more than eight times as many as against Muslims.

In 2001 (the year of the Sept. 11 terror attacks), more than twice as many crimes were attributed to anti-Semitism than to anti-Muslim bias.
