May Kaplan

Milwaukeean May Kaplan, nee Sherman, died Aug. 10 of a stroke. She was 88.

She was born in Chelm, Poland, and came to Milwaukee in 1930. She graduated from Washington High School.

She owned and operated a liquor store and a lobby store. She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel.

She enjoyed playing the alto saxophone, dancing, bingo, and poker. Her family described her as “very family-oriented and independent.”

Her husband, Rubin Stein, died in 1972. She is survived by daughters Mari Ellen (Morry) Birnbaum, Sharon (Dr. Barry) Marcus; son Mark D. Stein; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home handled the arrangements. The funeral was held Aug. 13 with Rabbi Mitchell Cohen officiating. Burial was in Agudas Achim Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Chai Point Senior Living Apartment Complex would be appreciated by the family.
