‘Cutting Edge Israel’ free class opens Oct. 28

A class on “Cutting Edge Israel: Contemporary Israeli Short Films” will be presented for free on four Thursdays, 7:30 p.m., this fall at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.

The documentary films and dates are:

• “Black Over White” (2008), in which popular Israeli singer-songwriter Idan Raichel and his group travel to Ethiopia. Paz Goldschmidt, director of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center, will present. Oct. 28.

• “Amos Oz” (2008), about the acclaimed Israeli novelist and activist. Jody Hirsh, JCC Judaic educator, will present. Nov. 18.

• “Ida’s Dance Club” (2008), a documentary about a ballroom dance competition for seniors in Tel Aviv. Goldschmidt will present. Dec. 9.

• “Leap of Faith” (2009), an examination of six individuals who chose to convert from Christianity to Orthodox Judaism. Hirsh will present.
