Phillip Mark Plotkin of Kamuela, Hawaii, died on July 7 of a long illness. He was 65.
A Milwaukee native, he graduated from Washington High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He worked as a drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselor in Milwaukee and in Hawaii, where he moved in 2001. He also was an Army National Guard veteran.
According to his sister, Julie Plotkin Ramsey of Fairfax, Va., he liked to travel, particularly in Thailand, Nepal, and India; and he became involved in supporting educational efforts in Nepal.
He was a member of Congregation Kona Beth Shalom in Hawaii.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by wife Serena Sarah Plotkin; and step-daughter Rebekah Kramer of Gilbert, Ariz.
A memorial service took place in Puako, Hawaii, on Aug. 1.
