Florence Barland, nee Schwab, of Glendale died on June 19 of cancer. She was 91.

She was born in Milwaukee. When she was a child, her family moved to Mason City, Iowa. She attended and graduated from high school there, and attended the Hamilton Business College from 1935-36. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store for about 35 years. After they retired, she became active in NA’AMAT USA, and was president of the Wisconsin chapter for many years. According to her family, “her special love was raising money for NA’AMAT Spiritual Adoption, which she did until her death.”

She also was a member of Hadassah, an investment club, and a book club. She and her husband were members of Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah, and she served as secretary of its board of directors.

She received the William and Fannie Kesselman Senior Service Award for her volunteer service. According to her family, “When she got involved in any project, she got the job done.”

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter Marcia (Gene) Laskey of Milwaukee; sons Alan (Rozzie) Barland of Israel and Shawn Barland of Milwaukee; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled the arrangements. Rabbi Nachman Levine officiated. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery on June 21.
