Vivian Aronson

Former Milwaukeean Vivian Aronson, nee Schwartz, died May 19 in her home in Long Island, N.Y. She was 66.

She graduated from Milwaukee’s Washington High School in 1962 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1966. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Chicago for about ten years. She met Sam Aronson in Chicago; they were married in 1968.

The couple moved to Long Island in 1978. She earned a master’s degree and CSW certificate at Stony Brook University. She then worked for Suffolk County, several school districts and local agencies.

She later studied at the Suffolk Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She operated a private practice in Port Jefferson until 2007.

She had special interests in weaving, gardening, and environmental issues. According to her brother, David (Terry) Schwartz of Milwaukee, she was one of the earliest people to install home solar heating and solar electric power.

In addition to her brother and husband, she is survived by daughter Rachel Aronson of Eugene, Ore.; son Joseph Aronson of Long Island; and sister Elaine (Dr. Donald) Harvey of Port Washington.

The funeral was held May 21 at the I. J. Morris Funeral Home in Dix Hills, N.Y.
