Esther Schwade

Beaver Dam native Esther Schwade (nee Temkin Liebman) died at age 93 on March 20.

She graduated from Washington High School and earned a teaching degree from Milwaukee State Teacher’s College. She taught at Palmer Street School and, during World War II, taught afternoon kindergarten at Ninth Street School. She later studied at Cardinal Stritch College and became a certified reading instructor.

A member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, she served on various committees at the synagogue and in other organizations, including the Mt. Sinai Auxiliary and Hadassah: The Women’s Zionist Organization of America. She served as president of Hadassah’s Milwaukee chapter.

“Family, Judaism and Jewish community involvement were very important to her,” her family said.

She was very close with her sisters and helped create a large, extended family for her children, said her daughter Sandy Schmidt of Milwaukee.

She is further survived by daughter Fran (Ronald) Meyers of Mequon; son Dr. Jim (Karyn) Schwade of Coral Gables, Fla.; brothers Dr. AlbertLiebman of Mequon and Dr. Monte Liebman of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Emanu-El and burial was in Second Home Cemetery. Rabbi Marc Berkson officiated. The Jewish Community Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
