Jack Leonard Goodsitt

Milwaukee-native Jack Leonard Goodsitt died of natural causes Jan. 11 at age 88.

He graduated Shorewood High School in 1939 and began his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During his junior year, he left school for France to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the war, he earned a bachelor’s degree from UW in 1945 and a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1948.

He worked as a sole practitioner in Milwaukee and was a corporate counsel for Cap Gemini, a company based in France. He was a member of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and American Bar Associations.

He also belonged to the University Club and the Milwaukee Athletic Club.

He loved opera and theater, said his sister Patricia (Marvin) Spira of San Diego, Calif. A gourmet cook, “he was very well known for his interest in food and wine.” He would go to France and London to eat in the finest restaurants and was always very supportive of new fine restaurants, she said.

“He had a very wide circle of friends,” she said. During his life, he mentored many people and “everybody had wonderful stories to tell about him” at his memorial reception.

In addition to his sister, he is survived by nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements. Burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery. David and Marvin Spira, his nephew and brother-in-law, officiated. A memorial reception was held at the University Club.

Memorial contributions should go to the University of Wisconsin Foundation-Milwaukee or the Wisconsin Humane Society.
