Armon E. Kamesar

Cattle buyer turned stockbroker Armon E. Kamesar died on Dec. 11 from congestive heart failure. A resident of La Jolla, Calif., he was 82.

Born in Milwaukee in 1927, Armon graduated from Oklahoma A&M college before joining his father’s meat packing business, Prime Packing Company of Milwaukee, as a cattle buyer.

In the 1960s, he became manager of the North Shore branch office of the stock brokerage firm Loewi & Co.

In 1970, he and his family moved to the West Indies to own and operate a small hotel in Sign, Jamaica.

Three years later, Kamesar moved to La Jolla, Calif., where he founded American States Leasing and became involved in other businesses, such as the California Heritage Bank.

For the past 35 years, he was involved with Vistage International (formerly The Executive Committee), working with over 60 CEOs as a mentor, facilitator and coach.

In addition to his business dealings, he was actively involved in public service, including volunteer leadership positions with the San Diego Food Bank, the Neighborhood House and the San Diego Board of the Federal Emergency Management Administration.

While living in Milwaukee, he was involved with the Labor Zionist Alliance, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and served on the board of the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning.

Armon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Blacker) Kamesar, son Adam (Laura) Kamesar of Cincinnati, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Daniel Kamesar in 1990. His last remaining relative in Milwaukee is nephew Mordecai Lee.

A memorial gathering was held Jan. 17 in San Diego.
