Bernard Y. Arieff

 Bernard Arieff died on Nov. 30 after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 81.

A Milwaukee native, he attended Bay View High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He owned United Building and Supply.

Before retiring to Boca Raton, Fla., he was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel. He supported a variety of organizations, including Hadassah and the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

“Bernie lived a vigorous, well-rounded life up until his recent brief illness,” said his son Phillip (Yaffa) Arieff of Glendale.

“He was an avid golfer. He loved to travel, attend lectures and movies and enjoy time with his [family]. He kept up with a wide circle of friends both old and new. All who knew him appreciated his kindness and sense of humor.”

His wife, Molly Arieff, preceded him in death in 1998. In addition to his son, he is survived by daughter Diane Arieff of Los Angeles; brother David (Susan) of Fox Point; five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion Ruth Schultz of Boca Raton.

Funeral services were held at Goodman Bensman Funeral Home on Dec. 2. Rabbi Nachman Levine officiated. Burial was in Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery.
