Milwaukee attorney Burton A. Strnad died on Oct. 19 at age 79. Before his death, he battled four different cancers.
A Milwaukee native, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s law school, where he was a member of the law review, the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity and a member of the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law school graduates.
He served in the U.S. Army and then worked as a trial and appellate attorney for 50 years. He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
He also served the community as a five-year president of the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District. He was advisor to the Daniel M. Soref Charitable Trust.
An avid tennis player, he swam every other day, his family said, describing him as “the consummate Renaissance man.” “He loved sports, the arts, travel and fine food.”
“Burt was an extremely generous and devoted family man and was looked up to as a role model by all and was deeply loved,” his family said.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey J. Strnad of Milwaukee; sons Stephen (Ruth) Strnad of Milwaukee and Daniel Strnad of Davis, Calif.; daughters Susan (Steven) Schnoll of Milwaukee and Karen Strnad of Austin, Texas; sister Jean Lazarus of Milwaukee; and 5 grandchildren.
