Aron Mydlak

Holocaust survivor Aron Mydlak died on July 2 after a three-month battle with brain cancer. A Glendale resident, he was 91.

A native of Poland, he survived the Auschwitz and Birkenau camps though his seven siblings were killed. After the war, he married Sala Fromer in a displaced persons camp in Landesburg, Germany.

The couple moved to Milwaukee in 1949. Aron became a baker and worked at Crestwood Bakery in West Allis. A member of the New American Club, his special interests included music, politics, baking and spending time with his family.

“Throughout his life, family and Yiddishkeit meant everything to Aron,” his family said. “Though he had every reason to question whether there is a G-d, he continued to put on tefillin every day and never lost hope.”

Longtime members of Congregation Agudas Achim when it was on the West Side, the family later belonged to Congregation Beth Israel.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sala Fromer Mydlak; daughters Helen (Jose/Joseph) Sectzer and Rachelle (Steve) Naimon, both of Mequon; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Jewish Community Funeral Home handled funeral arrangements. Burial was in Agudas Achim Cemetery. Rabbi Jacob Herber officiated.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice, P.O. Box 370196, Milwaukee, WI 53237-1296.
