Temple Menorah hired Rabbi Fred D. Grossman as its new assistant rabbi. He will assume the position the first week of September. His hiring comes six months after the March death of Menorah’s former senior rabbi, Isaac Nathan Lerer.
As assistant rabbi, Grossman, 35, will provide pastoral services, teach, lead daily minyan services and officiate at lifecycle events.
According to Gil Ezer Lerer, Menorah’s senior rabbi, Grossman was selected from a long list of candidates. “We are certain that his warm personality, outstanding knowledge and dedication to Judaism will truly inspire all of our congregational family,” he said.
A native of Flint, Mich., Grossman earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature and creative writing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Before attending rabbinic school, he was assistant editor of The Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle.
He received rabbinic ordination and a Master’s Degree in Hebrew Letters from the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Since his ordination, he has served in congregations, religious schools, medical facilities and youth summer camps. A certified chaplain, he was a clinical pastoral education resident at Milwaukee’s Aurora Sinai Hospital.
