UW Hillel’s new facility opens its doors to campus and community fall 2009

The UW Hillel Foundation has moved to its new home located at 611 Langdon Street in the heart of the UW Madison campus.

Named after a longtime leader and activist for Jewish causes, The Barbara Hochberg Center for Jewish Student Life offers updated and environmentally-friendly amenities to UW-Madison students, faculty, and the community at large.

With over 30,000 square feet, the new facility includes a wide range of multi-purpose space including a kosher kitchen, cafe and numerous dining areas to accommodate up to 600 attendees.

A state-of-the-art fitness center, rooftop recreation area, 400-seat auditorium, library/computer room, study lounge and worship space are also part of the modern new building that replaces the old Hillel center.

In step with UW-Hillel’s long time commitment to social justice and environmental stewardship, this new facility was designed by architect Engberg Anderson and constructed by J.H. Findorff & Son to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) “Silver” certification standards for a “green” building.

This is achieved through the use of durable, long life-cycle materials, high efficiency mechanical systems, daylighting and more.

Scheduled to open to the public in fall 2009, the new Barbara Hochberg Center for Jewish Student Life will grow to become part of the larger campus community, playing host to a variety of cultural and social events open to anyone interested in participating.

Free lectures, movies, concerts and programs will be offered throughout the year, and other opportunities for experiencing this beautiful new facility will be open for all students and members of the community to enjoy.

A major dedication celebration is being planned for the weekend of Oct. 16-18 as well as other special events throughout the year.
