Katie Schlesinger, 8, is a semi-finalist in the 2009 search for Huggable Heroes by Build-A-Bear Workshop.
Daughter of Diane and Rick Schlesinger, Katie is a fourth grader at University School of Milwaukee. As part of her “Operation Beanie Baby,” she has collected more than 1,000 Beanie Babies to ship to American troops stationed overseas to give to local children.
Of the 208 semi-finalists, 12 will be chosen and honored in July. Winners will receive a $7,500 educational scholarship and $2,500 to be donated to a charity.
