Longtime Milwaukeean Ionel Iancu of Glendale died of heart failure in Florida on March 4, at the age of 84.
Born in Roman, Romania, he was a Holocaust survivor. He came to Milwaukee in 1978 from Bucharest.
Iancu was a professor of philosophy and politics. He wrote many books and scholarly papers, according to his family. He was “a man of great courage, resolve and wisdom” and he “valued friendship and family above all else,” they wrote.
He is survived by wife Rodica Iancu (nee Victor); son Sorin (Dr. Rodica Iancu-Loebel) of Mequon; sister Revelina Icutil of Ramat Gan, Israel; and one grandson.
Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Rabbi Yitzchak Berman and Cantor Jerome Berkowitz officiated at graveside services on March 8. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
The family appreciates memorial contributions to the Clement J. Zablocki Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
