I’d like to join Donna Margolis (letter to the editor in the Dec. 19 issue) in expressing my disappointment in The Chronicle’s handling of the coverage of the events in Mumbai.
I was further taken aback by the coverage in the Dec. 12 issue of the memorial event which took place on Dec. 2 at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.
Although the announcement of the event was done by email only 36 hours prior to the scheduled time, it drew a crowd of more than 450 by some estimates and 350 by a lower estimate, from across the spectrum of the Jewish community. Few occasions draw such a crowd.
The response of the community is a testimony to the shock, pain and identification with the tragedy. However, in its caption on B. Devorah Shmotkin’s presentation at the event in the Dec. 12 issue, The Chronicle did not find this fact noteworthy to mention, as it does on so many (comparably) insignificant occasions.
