Florence Hootkin

Milwaukee native Florence Hootkin (nee Kaufman) died on July 29. She was 91.

A graduate of North Division High School, Hootkin attended the Milwaukee Extension Center of the University of Wisconsin (currently the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) in the mid 1930s. She worked as the head of the children’s wear departments of both Gimbels and Marshall Field’s department stores for many years.

Hootkin was active in the Jewish community and was a member of several Jewish organizations including ORT America, Inc.-Wisconsin Chapter, the National Council of Jewish Women-Milwaukee Section and the Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue Sisterhood. She was also active with the Fox Point-Bayside LX Senior Center

Hootkin enjoyed spending time with her family and had a passion for music.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Frank Hootkin, in 1980. She is survived by daughter Dolly (Bobby) Sucher of Fox Point; son Larry (Jane) Hootkin of Santa Fe, N.M.; brother Kiesl (Yetta) Kaufman of Mequon; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Blane Goodman Funeral Service, LLC. Graveside services were officiated by Rabbi Ronald Shapiro at Agudas Achim Cemetery on July 31.
