Jack Recht died on March 24 of complications from a seizure disorder. He was 77.
Born in Argentina, Recht came to Milwaukee as a child. He graduated from North Division High School and received a degree in light building from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He began his own firm, Recht Realty, in 1955 and specialized in managing construction. The firm, now called Metropolitan Associates, currently owns and/or manages about 4,500 apartment units in southeastern Wisconsin.
Recht served on the boards of the Walnut Area Improvement Council, Zoological Society of Milwaukee County, Mount Sinai Hospital, Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and Milwaukee Art Museum.
According to his family, Recht was “humble,” “a good listener” and had a “witty sense of humor.”
He is survived by wife Barbara Recht (nee Siegel), of Milwaukee; sons Daniel (Elaine Selsberg) Recht of Denver, Thomas Recht of Glencoe, Ill., Dr. James (Nina Dillon) Recht of Boston, and Robert (Melanie Taylor) Recht of Surfside, Fla.; daughter Sydney (Robert Appel) Recht of San Francisco; and 12 grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at funeral services at Congregation Shalom on March 26. Burial was in Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery.
