Helen Bader Foundation awards $2.85 million

Milwaukee’s Helen Bader Foundation has awarded 91 new grants totaling $2,851,955 in its current grant cycle.

These grants included $181,000 for Jewish Life and Learning that went to benefit local Jewish organizations. These grants are:

• A three-year $60,000 grant to Yeshiva Elementary School to implement a new teaching approach geared to different student abilities.

• A five-year $50,000 grant to build a playground for Jewish Beginnings Lubavitch Preschool.

• A three-year $40,000 grant for Ruach to support its efforts to provide Jewish-centered arts programming.

• A three-year $15,000 grant to the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization to enhance its Teen Connection program.

• A $10,000 grant to the Jewish Youth Foundation to expand its Friendship Circle to include adults.

• A two-year $6,000 grant to Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee to create educational materials for its efforts to integrate Jewish principles with social justice issues and activities.

The foundation also gave 12 grants totaling $738,500 for Early Childhood Development in Israel. These grants included:

• A three-year $130,000 grant to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to help Israeli special needs children integrate into regular day care programs.

• A three-year $118,000 grant to the Association for Children at Risk in Tel Aviv to provide extra support for autistic kindergartners.

• A three-year $75,000 grant to Yad Rachel in Jerusalem to help create a new parent-child center.

Under the auspices of its Alzheimer’s and Aging program area, the foundation distributed 12 grants totaling $361,450. These included a three-year $75,000 grant to Milwaukee’s Jewish Home and Care Center to help support a person-centered care approach.

The foundation also awarded seven grants totaling $255,000 in its Economic Development area; 27 grants totaling $185,400 in its Sankofa-Youth Development area; ten grants totaling $330,000 for Community Initiatives; and 12 Directed Grants totaling $426,500.
