Rose Robbins

Rose L. Robbins (nee Turnansky) died of a stroke on March 18, three days after her 87th birthday.

Born in Belarus, she came to Wisconsin with her family when she was less than a year old.

She graduated from North Division High School in 1939.

A saleswoman at Marshall Field’s in downtown Milwaukee, Robbins became a fixture in the men’s department there for more than 25 years.

“She took pride in her job [and] loved every minute of it,” said her daughter Marlene (Ronald) Wasserman of Agoura Hills, Calif. People often requested her and she earned numerous “saleswoman of the month” awards. After transferring to Boston Store, she worked until she was 80 years old, Wasserman said.

She encountered many difficulties in life, as her husband of 18 years, Herman Robbins, died in 1966 and her son, Richard Robbins of Milwaukee, suffers from mental illness. She was actively involved with Jewish Family Services and was a strong advocate on behalf of mental health issues, said Wasserman.

In addition to her daughter, Marlene, and son, Richard, she is further survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Blane Goodman Funeral Service, LLC. Services were officiated by Rabbi Joseph Prass at North Shore Funeral Chapel on March 21. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.

The family appreciates memorial contributions to Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division, Jewish Family Services and Chai Point Senior Living Apartment Complex.
