Meta Baruch (nee Altmann) died of natural causes on May 5. She was 99.
Born in Beuthen, Upper Silesia (then a part of Germany, now in Poland), she immigrated to the United States in 1938 in order to avoid Nazi persecution. After a brief stay in New York, she settled in Chicago, where she resided until moving to Milwaukee in 1985.
Baruch worked as the director of housekeeping at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, and was a member of Hadassah. During her residence at Chai Point Senior Living Apartment Complex, she was the chairperson of the hospitality committee and participated in many activities there, including Jewish studies, computer classes, yoga and tai chi.
“She touched a lot of people through her joy of life and caring for other people,” said her son, Steven (Judy) Baruch of Glendale.
Baruch was preceded in death by her husband Siegfried Baruch in 1966, and is further survived by two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Goodman Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home. Services were officiated at the funeral home by Rabbis Shlomo Pontos and Baruch Comrov on May 6. Burial was in Oakridge Cemetery in Chicago.
Memorial contributions to Hadassah or the Jewish Home and Care Center are appreciated by the family.
