Lena “Lee” Stahl died on June 8 at the age of 88.
Stahl was born in Sheboygan and attended Washington High School in Two Rivers, Wis.
She founded the Milwaukee craft store Artcraft by Lee in 1963, which later expanded to include party planning and photography. Her family describes her as one of the “original party planners in Wisconsin.”
She was president of the Business and Professional Group at Jewish Women International and a member of Hadassah-Milwaukee Chapter, Jewish War Veterans and Morris R. Guten Auxiliary. She belonged to the sisterhoods of Congregation Beth Israel, Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and Temple Menorah.
In 1990, Temple Menorah named her a “Woman of Valor” and in 2001, she was the recipient of the Kesselman Senior Service Award.
According to her family, “volunteering was Lee’s passion” and she “was always giving and preferred being the ‘doer’ rather than sitting behind the scenes.”
She is survived by daughter Judy (Joe) Stoll of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; son Stuart (Lori) Stahl of Bayside; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Rabbi Yitzchak Berman officiated at graveside services at Mound Zion Cemetery on June 10.
The family appreciates memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6130 W. National Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
