Milwaukee native Yehudah David Himmel, born Jules Himmelreich, died in Yeshuv Metzad in Gush Etzion, Israel, Feb. 16 of a heart attack. He was 70.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1953 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1958.
According to his sister, Beverly Schuminsky of Milwaukee, he worked for Aldridge Chemical briefly after college and then affiliated with a yeshiva in New York. He made aliyah 30 years ago with the family that operated that yeshiva. They established the Diaspora Yeshiva in Jerusalem and he helped to rebuild the building they occupied in the Old City. In Israel he was also employed by a security service.
He was buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, Feb. 16.
Memorials to the Jewish National Fund to plant trees in Israel would be appreciated by the family.
