Longtime Waukesha attorney Thomas S. Brenner died Sept. 8 of lung cancer at the age of 67.
He graduated from Waukesha High School and Carroll College and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1961. He joined his father Leon Brenner’s firm, which became known as Brenner, Brenner and Wall. He was a partner with Jennifer Wall for 25 years. He and his father’s years of practice will be commemorated by a tribute in the Waukesha County Courthouse.
He was the current president of the Wisconsin chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; a Master in the American Inns of Court, Leander J. Foley Section; and a member of the American, Wisconsin and Waukesha County bar associations.
Known as a respected and skilled trial attorney, he colleagues described him as a “wonderful mentor” and “feared adversary.” His family said they will miss his sense of humor and sharp wit.
While a student, he played on the Carroll College tennis team and continued to play that sport and golf throughout his life. He was an avid football, basketball and baseball fan and enjoyed trips to Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Brenner; daughters Laura (Jeff Behan) Brenner of Milwaukee and Tracy (Matt Tector) Brenner of New York; son Lee (Chanel) Brenner of Los Angeles; sister Roberta Garber; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sept. 12 with burial at Second Home Cemetery.
