Longtime Milwaukee businessman Stuart Lewis Glassman died Aug. 25 in San Diego of prostate cancer. He was 72.
He was born in Chicago and moved to Milwaukee as a toddler in 1931. He graduated from Washington High School in 1947.
He owned and operated Radio Doctors and Records, Ltd., a retail and wholesale sales operation of recorded music. Though he and his wife, Rae, re-located to San Diego in 1977, he remained active in his business until 1991. He was inducted into the National Association of Record Merchants “Music Industry Legends” Hall of Fame in 1998.
While living in Milwaukee, he was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun and a supporter of the Variety Club Children’s Charities. He continued his interest in San Diego, serving as president of that chapter.
In California, he was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations. In 1990, he was elected to the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame and in 1999 was named America’s Finest City Volunteer of the Year.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Debra Glassman of Seattle; son Steven Glassman of Mountain View, Calif., and four grandchildren.
