Sidney Naimon

Teacher and businessman Sidney Naimon died Feb. 29 of congestive heart failure. He was 87.

He was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Lincoln High School, where he was salutatorian. He earned his education degrees at the State Teachers College (predecessor to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) and Wayne State University in Detroit.

He worked as a teacher in Grosse Pointe, Mich., in the Mukwonago school system and at the Gaeslin School in Milwaukee until ill health — he had a heart attack in 1959 — compelled him to leave the field in 1962. In 1945, he founded Owl Imports, a business that he and his wife ran on the side.

A member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue until it moved to Mequon, he also belonged to B’nai B’rith, the Alpha Kappa Tau fraternity and the West Allis Business Association.

According to his wife of 62 years and nine months, Sara (nee Lubar), he was “more of a scholar than an athlete,” who liked to read. But, she said, before his health declined he liked to bowl and play golf and cards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Dr. Edwin (Kathleen) Naimon of Boulder, Colo., and Steven (Rachelle) Naimon of Milwaukee; and four grandchildren.

Rabbi Shari Shamah officiated at the funeral on March 3. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association would be appreciated by the family.
