Seymour “Sy” Bensman

Seymour “Sy” Bensman, of Bayside, died Sept. 19. He was 77.

A Milwaukee native, he was a licensed funeral director for 56 years. He was associated with Schram-Bensman Funeral Home, then Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home and, in his retirement years, Star of David Funeral Service.

He was a member of National Funeral Directors Association, Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association and Milwaukee County Funeral Directors Association, and past president of Jewish Funeral Directors of America.

In addition, he was a 32nd degree Mason, involved with the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and a World War II army veteran.

He is survived by wife Sandra (nee Kendall); sons Jeffrey (Cathy) Bensman and Lawrence (Lyn) Bensman, both of Milwaukee; step-daughter Andrea (Bryan) Bruttig of Milwaukee; sister Geraldine (Howard) Newman of Wilmette, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at funeral services Sept. 21. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials to the Sarah Chudnow Campus or the Wisconsin Parkinson Association would be appreciated by the family.
