Longtime Milwaukee resident Sam Marcus died July 17 of a heart attack. He was 79.
Born in Chicago, he served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and in the Federal Aviation Administration. He came to Milwaukee in 1969.
He was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue where he was president of the Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Senior Men’s Club at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.
He enjoyed volunteering at the synagogue, reading, bridge, movies and concerts, according to his family.
Preceded in death by wife Lorraine in 2003, he is survived by daughters Linda (Gary) Engle and Debra Haberman, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and special friend Shirley Zembrosky, all of Milwaukee.
Rabbi Gideon Goldenholz officiated at graveside funeral services at Mound Zion Cemetery on July 18.
Memorials to Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue or the Ozaukee Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
