Robert M. Weiss

Well-known Milwaukee attorney Robert M. Weiss died Nov. 21 of complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 73.

Born in Milwaukee, he graduated from Washington High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After a stint with a local accounting firm and receiving his certified public accountant certificate, he attended Marquette University Law School, where he graduated cum laude in 1953.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force for three years, he returned to Milwaukee and formed the law firm of Lorinczi & Weiss. During its 46-year history, the firm, now known as Weiss Berzowski Brady LLP, grew to have 29 attorneys and offices downtown and in Delafield.

Weiss also was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he taught accounting and related subjects. In addition, he became an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School in 1966 and taught a course in corporate taxation until 1989.

He was a member of the American and Wisconsin bar associations and active in the Milwaukee organization’s taxation and real estate sections. He wrote two resource books on taxation and real estate.

In addition to his professional involvement, Weiss was active in numerous charitable and civic organizations. He served on the boards of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Jewish National Fund and the Skylight Opera Theater; and was a member of Congregation Shalom and the Milwaukee Zoological Society. He also was a former president of the Milwaukee Legal Aid Society.

In addition to being an enthusiastic supporter of many local arts organizations, he composed satirical musical revues that were performed for the Milwaukee Bar Association’s Annual Judges Night, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and Congregation Shalom’s 50th anniversary last year.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Weiss of Glendale; daughters Nancy (Mark) Weiss McQuide of Mequon and Elaine Weiss of Evanston, Ill.; sister Janet (Eugene) Lerner of Evanston; brother Dr. John (Suzanne) Weiss of Oakland, Calif.; sister-in-law Barbara Lepp of Mequon; and three grandchildren.

Services were held at Congregation Shalom on Nov. 25. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family would appreciate memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin or the Jewish National Fund.
