Robert Allen Lewenauer

Lifelong Milwaukeean Robert Allen Lewenauer of Fox Point died Dec. 30 of lung cancer. He was 79.

He graduated in 1943 from Shorewood High School. During World War II, he was a second lieutenant in the Eighth Air Force, serving as a bombardier.

He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison after the war. A commercial real estate developer, he was associated with Zelm Realty and later founded Lewenauer Investments.

In addition, he owned Stuart’s Apparel Co., a women’s clothing business with stores located downtown, Brookfield, Mayfair Shopping Center and Capitol Court. It closed in 1986.

An active supporter of numerous Jewish organizations, he was a member of Congregation Shalom.

Called a “reluctant golfer” by his family, he belonged to Brynwood Country Club. He was a car enthusiast and a member of the Austin Healey Club. Also, he was a pianist with a “soft touch.”

His family added that he was “creative, funny, caring and always interested in people. His great smile and love of family will long be remembered.”

He is survived by his wife, Rita Lewenauer (nee Zaret); sons James (Sandra) Lewenaurer and John (Linda) Lewenauer, both of Mequon; and four grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on Jan. 2. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials to the Center for Deaf & Hard of Hearing or to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Diabetes Center would be appreciated by the family.
