Rita Gecht

Rita Lea Gecht (nee Kesselman) of Fox Point died Oct. 13 at Columbia Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was 77.

Born in Milwaukee, she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Marquette University and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in educational psychology. She trained certified nursing assistants at the Milwaukee Jewish Home.

She was a member of Temple Menorah and a life member of Hadassah, NA’AMAT of the USA and the Zionist Organization of America.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Eli Gecht; daughters Ellen Kay (Irwin Bornstein) Gecht of Laguna Hills, Calif., Maureen (Randy Silver) Gecht-Silver of Glenview, Ill., and Deborah (Efraim) Lev-Er of Bayside; sisters Muriel (Edward) Levin and Ruth (Marvin) Silver, both of Milwaukee; sister-in-law Florence (Monroe) Slavick; and five grandchildren.

Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated funeral services on Oct. 15. Burial was in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery.

The family would appreciate memorials to cancer research programs.
