Oscar Louik

Due to heart failure, Oscar Louik of Stafford, Va., died on Oct. 21 at the age of 76.
Born in Philadelphia, he came to Milwaukee in 1930, when he was three years old. He graduated from Pius XI High School in 1945 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1949, where he earned degrees in English and mathematics.

According to his stepson, Lars Warkentien of Stafford, Louik was a college professor who taught at UW-Madison and at Milton College in Milton, Wis. After retiring, Louik was director of jazz and classical music for a radio station in Janesville, where he lived, and later worked in a sales position that required him to travel “all over the country.”

He belonged to Congregation B’nai Abraham in Beloit. A member of the Wisconsin Arts Council from 1964 to 1970, he enjoyed astronomy, opera and jazz. After suffering a stroke in 1998, he moved to Stafford.

In addition to his stepson, he is survived by wife Deborah Kitt Louik of Stafford; and stepdaughters Gail Ninmer of Edgerton and Wendy Leary of Colorado Springs.
Services were held Oct. 27.
