Levana Caro Regev, the new regional director of the Partnership 2000 Sovev Kinneret region, Milwaukee’s partner region near the Sea of Galilee, understands the importance of diaspora Jews’ connection to the State of Israel.
Regev served as a shlicha (emissary) for Israel in Cincinnati, Ohio, four years ago, which she calls an “amazing and enriching experience.” She learned “about the life in the Jewish community in the United States,” as well as “the importance of the community’s connection to the state of Israel,” she said in an e-mail interview from Israel this week.
Regev, who is “looking forward to working with the partnered communities of the Sovev Kinneret region,” said, “I see my position as regional director as a continuation of this mission.”
It was in Cincinnati that Regev “became acquainted with Partnership 2000.”
Regev said she “greatly believes in its goals to build a strong living bridge between the Jewish communities worldwide. I believe in the unity of the Jewish people and the need to develop a stable and unified global Jewish community with Israel at its center.
“It is my belief that all of us are responsible for the fate of the Jewish people, and am glad to find partners who share this mission and are active in building and strengthening the bridge between our communities.”
Regev is replacing Smadar Perach, who was promoted to director of Partnership 2000’s northern region.
Unlike Perach, a native of Tiberias, “Levana doesn’t live in the region,” said Jane Gellman, P2K chair for the Milwaukee, St. Paul and Tulsa cluster.
“Every time you have a new staff person, [they] bring a whole different skill set….
“She brings a lot of experience and good understanding of American and Jewish communities,” to the program, said Gellman. “She is a really big asset for us.”
