La Crosse native Nathen Jacob died in Milwaukee on March 10. He was 94.
According to his daughter-in-law, Christine Jacob, he had moved to Milwaukee by the time he was 18. He was a grocer who owned and operated Mid-City Super Market on 10th and Burleigh Sts. until he retired in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.
He belonged to Congregation Anshai Lebowitz, to which “he contributed a lot of time,” said Christine Jacob, “working in the kitchen, contributing to picnics,” etc. He also belonged to Harmony Masonic Lodge #261. But his primary interest was his family, she said.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Jacob (nee Peckerman); daughter Judy (Louis) Glotzer of Mequon; son Mark (Christine) Jacob of Bayside; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
