Milwaukee native Monte S. Sweet of Glendale died March 13 at the age of 69. The cause of death was leukemia.
He was the owner and operator for 40 years of Zenith Transportation Corp., a trucking company. He retired in May 2003, according to his family.
A member of Congregation Beth Israel and its Men’s Club, he helped at the congregation’s bingo games for many years, his family said.
He especially enjoyed going to Bucks, Brewers and Badger football games, listening to jazz, and attending his grandsons’ baseball and basketball games, his family said.
“Monte suffered a long illness and fought a courageous battle. His determination was an inspiration to his entire family,” his family said.
He is survived by wife Beverly Sweet, nee Wolfman; son Todd (Cheryl) Sweet of Mequon; daughter Robin (John Grande) Sweet of Madison; brother James (Elaine) Sweet of Mequon; sister Judy Sweet of San Diego; and four grandchildren.
Rabbi Jacob Herber officiated at funeral services March 16. Burial was in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery.
Memorials to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Congregation Beth Israel would be appreciated by the family.
