Max Glazer

Longtime Milwaukee resident Max Glazer died Sept. 21 at the age of 98.

Born in Milwaukee, Glazer owned and operated his own grocery store before going to work for Kohl’s Food Stores in the produce department. When mandatory retirement forced him to leave his job at 65, he went to Herb Kohl and “begged him for a job,” according to his family. He was given a job driving a Kohl’s delivery truck, which he continued until he was 82.

He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, which he attended regularly until his health prohibited it, his family said. His final years were spent at the Jewish Home & Care Center, where he enjoyed listening to Jewish music and viewing family movies with family and friends.

Glazer was preceded in death by his wife Sarah (nee Becker) Glazer in 2000; and brothers Henry, David and Jacob Glazer. Survivors include his daughter Nancy (George) Sedloff of Kenosha; brothers Edward (Celia) Glazer of Milwaukee; Frank Glazer of Topsham, Maine; and Samuel Glazer of Madison; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sept. 22 at Second Home Cemetery. Rabbi Shlomo Pontos officiated.
