Former Fox Point resident Louis Sherman of Laguna Woods, Calif., died on June 12 at the age of 87.
Sherman was born in Chelm, Poland, and came to the United States at the age of 9. He graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee.
Sherman served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was stationed near London, where he met his wife, Annette.
He owned and operated United Military Surplus and Army Navy Surplus, both on Wisconsin Ave., for 35 years. He was also one of the original founding members of the Army Navy Surplus Dealers Association, which now has members worldwide.
Sherman was active in the Jewish War Veterans and was a former commander of the Hornstein-Katz post.
He was a former member of Congregation Sinai.
According to his family, Sherman loved to go dancing with his wife.
He also enjoyed family gatherings and eating McDonald’s cheeseburgers with his grandchildren. He was a “sweet man loved very much by his family.”
He is survived by wife Annette (nee Hyams) of Laguna Woods, Calif; daughters Randi Shapiro of Foothill Ranch, Calif., and Michele (Doug) Sadoff of Lake Forest, Calif.; son Michael Sherman of Lake Forest, Calif.; sister May Kaplan of Milwaukee; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services and burial took place in Costa Mesa, Calif., on June 15.
