Milwaukee native Louis E. Bines, of Mequon, died on Dec. 23. He was 94.
A 1931 graduate of North Division High School, Bines served as a staff sergeant in World War II in France, where he was responsible for the intake and supervision of prisoners of war, according to his daughter, Carol (Steven) Paige of Seattle, Wash.
Bines worked as a sales representative, selling women’s sportswear to retail clothing stores for many years.
A member of Temple Menorah, the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and the B’nai B’rith Gilead Lodge, Bines loved playing cards and was an avid sports fan, according to Paige.
“He held his family close to his heart,” she said.
Bines is further survived by his wife, Helene Bines (nee Unick); daughter Cynthia (Daniel) Becker of Toledo, Ohio; brothers Marvin (Bedane) Bines of Whitefish Bay and Martin Bines of Milwaukee; and five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Suminski/Weiss Funeral Home. Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated at services at the funeral home Dec. 26. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
