Businessman Lewis Marks, formerly of Milwaukee and Madison, died Jan. 16 in Fountain Hills, Ariz. He was 97.
Born in Illinois, he moved to Milwaukee as a child and graduated from North Division High School. He worked for 25 years in the Kickerinos Shoes manufacturing firm founded by his father-in-law. After his first wife, Ruth (nee Brindis) died, he remarried and moved to Madison, where he joined his son in the Hillmark Corp. real estate firm.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Shriners and the Rotary Club, and belonged to Temple Beth El while in Madison. According to his family, he was an avid golfer and reader, and did charitable work on behalf of crippled children through the Masons.
He is survived by wife Rita (nee Rosenberg) Marks of Milwaukee; daughters Sheila (the late Kenneth) Shayne of The Villages, Fla., and Barbara (Max) Kolb of Milwaukee; son Richard (Judy) Marks of Vail, Colo.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at graveside services at Spring Hill Cemetery on Jan. 21.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Jewish National Fund for trees in Israel, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
