Radiologist Dr. Leo Stockland of Fox Point died at the age of 84 on Nov. 11. The cause of death was respiratory failure after a prolonged illness.
A native of Milwaukee, he was a graduate of Washington High School, Marquette University, and Marquette Medical School where he earned his medical degree in 1956.
He was chief of staff at Family Hospital and an associate professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he taught medical physics to radiology residents.
He belonged to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, Phi Delta Epsilon international medical fraternity, American Medical Association and the Radiological Society of North America.
He was a member of Congregation Shalom. In addition, his special interests included travel, art, sports, professional reading, antique restoration and pro bono work as a physician for inner city clinics for the last 10 years of his life, according to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois (nee Engel) Stockland; daughters Wendy (Michael) Foster of Downers Grove, Ill., and Gayle (Dennis) Fixler of Silver Spring, Md.; son Dr. Andrew Stockland of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at funeral services at Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home, Nov. 14. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Israel Defense League or hunger-related organizations would be appreciated by the family.
